How do you describe something when you no the English language dose not have the words to do it justice, you cant so i will just do my best.
Last night was the running of the inaugural 1/18 Australian sprintcar title and was a night now written in history for all the right reasons.
Before i give you an insight into how the night went there are some important things that i feel need a mention.
What made this event and every race night at Oversteer so good is the people ,the ones who run and plan everything and put huge amounts of time and effort and most importantly the people who race there.
Any form of racing is competitive its the nature of the beast but when you have 20-30 other drivers who are just as happy to see someone else win you no that you have something very special.
That is what makes Oversteer as good as it is the people.
Last night sore the biggest field of sprintcars we have ever had and some of the best racing also.
Everything was run to time and we had great food ,this coupled with a great atmosphere and awesome people made for one hell of a night.
4pm and time trials was under way and yes the dreaded track caught all unaware as it was slick and slippery.
The times were slow and this made all very close but in the end it was Racin Jason with quick time followed by Guru and Ricky Burner.
The heats was were some of the best racing was to be had as the fact that it was a title on the line made all drivers step up .
Young Guns Parker and Alex were on fire and showing a level of driving that would normally be reserved for more experienced drivers.
The finals were as much fun as they were fierce and it was a chance for those who had bad heats to bump up into the following main as one would transfer.
The Bmain was an Amain on any given race day due to the size and quality of the field .
This was perhaps the most important race of the night as only 2 would transfer into the feature and have the chance to win the title.
The race was close clean and very exciting to watch but in the end it was Greg Brooks and Donny Jmac Burke advancing to the feature race.
The line up in order of points for the Amain was ...1.Racin Jason 2.Guru 3.Ricky Burner 4. Wombat 5.Greg Brooks 6.Donny Burke.
So the best of the best were now ready to rub wheels and see who was the best.
The race got off to a clean start and Racin Jason was in the lead followed by Guru and Ricky Burner ,after 7 laps Racin jason came to grief and Guru ran into the back of him taking the lead followed by Greg and ricky.
Donny Burke had mechanical issues and dropped back through the field .
Guru was still out in front and was now settled in with Greg Ricky and Wombat all chasing hard but also showing a very high level of courtesy to the leaders who`s race pace was getting quicker with each lap.
With 50 laps to go Guru was still in the lead with Greg Brooks trying everything to catch up and Wombat closing in on Ricky Burner.
Ten laps to go and the positions still the same ,nerves now not a factor and Guru holds on for the win but Ricky Burner crashes to give Wombat 3rd.
1st Guru 2nd Greg brooks 3rd Wombat 4th Ricky Burner 5th Donny Burke 6th Racin Jason.
GURU NOW AUS#1Best presented sprintcar went to Racin Jason in the Smoke 14 car
Best presented derby van went to the great Wombat who also took victory in the derby witch was so funny to watch as all had heaps of fun and bits flew all over the place.Well done Wombat.
